Result of equals<\/code> method depends very much on its implementation.<\/p>\n

Method equals<\/code> of Object<\/code>:<\/p>\n

public boolean equals(Object obj) {\n    return (this == obj);\n}\n<\/code><\/pre>\n
This means, that equals<\/code> will return true<\/code>, only if the two variables holds the references (therefore references to the same object).<\/p>\n
If it returns false<\/code>, this must by caused by overriding the original method.<\/p>\n
I don’t know, where is the bug, because I don’t see your equals<\/code> method, but I can give you an example, how to write one:<\/p>\n
public class MyClass {\n\n    private int integer;\n\n    private String string;\n\n    private char character;\n\n    public MyClass(int integer, String string, char character) {\n        this.integer = integer;\n        this.string = string;\n        this.character = character;\n    }\n\n    @Override\n    public boolean equals(Object obj) {\n        if (obj == null)\n            return false;\n        if (obj == this)\n            return true;\n\n        if (!(obj instanceof MyClass))\n            return false;\n\n        MyClass myClass = (MyClass) obj;\n\n        if (integer == myClass.integer && string.equals(myClass.string) && character == myClass.character)\n            return true;\n        else\n            return false;\n    }\n\n}\n<\/code><\/pre>\n
