It splits a word into two parts: stem<\/code> and end<\/code>. There are three cases: <\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The word ends with ss<\/code> (or even more s<\/code>): stem <- word<\/code> and end <- \"\"<\/code><\/li>\n
  2. The word ends with a single s<\/code>: stem <- word without \"s\"<\/code> and end <- \"s\"<\/code><\/li>\n
  3. The word does not end with s<\/code>: stem <- word<\/code> and end <- \"\"<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This is done by a regular expression which captures the full word (due to ^....$<\/code>). The first part (i.e. stem<\/code>) consists either of as much as possible ending in ss<\/code> (.*ss<\/code>) or if that is not possible of as less as possible (.*?<\/code>). Then possibly an ending s<\/code> is taken to be the end<\/code> part.<\/p>\n

    Note that in the first case (as much as possible ending in ss<\/code>) there can never be an additional s<\/code> for the end<\/code> part.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
