they&#8217;re being executed because you&#8217;re explicitly calling them:<\/p>\n<pre><code>const arr = [\n    { 'Some text': this.f('a') },\n    \/\/             ^^^^^^^^^^^\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212 here\n    { 'Some other text': this.f('b') }\n    \/\/                   ^^^^^^^^^^^\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212\u2212 and here\n]\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>The result of the above is an array with two objects in it, where the first object has a property called <code>Some text<\/code> whose value is the <strong>result<\/strong> of having called <code>this.f('a')<\/code> and the second object has a property called <code>Some other text<\/code> whose value is the <strong>result<\/strong> of having called <code>this.f('b')<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>If you wanted to delay those calls until some later time, you&#8217;d need to wrap them in functions:<\/p>\n<pre><code>const arr = [\n    { 'Some text': () =&gt;
