Based on your code everything happens immediately. There are no callbacks and thus no waiting for the animations to end. Your code can be reorganized to make it a bit more readable and easier to refactor. Here is what i would try:<\/p>\n

function show(pageNumber){\n    return picList.eq(pageNumber)\n    .animate({\n        opacity:'show'\n    },defaultAnimateDelay.show).promise();\n}\n\nfunction hide(pageNumber){\n    return picList.eq(pageNumber)\n    .stop(false,true)\n    .siblings()\n    .stop(false,false)\n    .animate({\n        opacity:'hide'\n    },defaultAnimateDelay.hide).promise();\n}\n\nfunction Carousel(pageNumber){\n    var promise = hide(pageNumber);\n    promise.done(function(){\n        show(pageNumber);\n    });\n\n    play.find('a')\n    .eq(pageNumber)\n    .addClass('current')\n    .siblings('').removeClass('current');\n}\n<\/code><\/pre>\n
This ensures that the hide animation completes before beginning the show animation. Another option would be to use the built-in callbacks but i find this easier to follow. I am not sure if all the stop<\/code> statements are necessary but left them in.<\/p>\n
Another issue (one that effects the initial page state) is that nothing is initially hidden. To resolve that is just simply updating the init code as follows:<\/p>\n
