Usual restrictions of course apply.<br \/>\nKeep in mind this functionality was only added in the C99 Standard. So if your compiler supports only previous standards, this will not work.<\/p>\n<p>However, the more appropriate and better practice method to use is to use <code>malloc<\/code> to allocate the char array properly<\/p>\n<pre><code>int digit;\nscanf(\"%d\", &amp;digit);\nchar* aa = malloc(digit + 1);\n\/\/Do what you want with the char array aa\nfree(aa);\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>Do not forget to check the result of <code>malloc()<\/code> against <code>NULL<\/code> and free the variable afterwards to prevent memory leaks if you want to do this.<\/p>\n<p>Also be aware that the &#8220;array&#8221; <code>malloc<\/code> returns is actually just a pointer, which is very relevant when trying to determine the size\/length of it, using <code>sizeof<\/code>:<\/p>\n<pre><code>char real_array[5];\nsizeof(real_array); \/\/ == 5\n\nchar* dynamic_array = malloc(5);\nsizeof(dynamic_array) \/\/ == sizeof(char*) == on most systems = 8\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"mt24\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>            <span class=\"d-none\" itemprop=\"commentCount\">11<\/span> <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>[ad_2]<\/p>\n<p>solved How to resolve a variable for char length?
