This is done through <em>parsing<\/em>. Fortunately using <code>java.time<\/code>, the modern Java date and time API, it is not so hard (when you know how). This is what we use the <code>dowFormatter<\/code> for in the following code (dow for day of week):<\/p>\n<pre><code>    DateTimeFormatter dateFormatter = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern(\"yyyy\/MM\/dd\");\n\n    DateTimeFormatter dowFormatter \n            = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern(\"EEEE\", Locale.getDefault(Locale.Category.FORMAT));\n    DayOfWeek dow = DayOfWeek.from(dowFormatter.parse(day));\n\n    WeekFields wf = WeekFields.of(Locale.getDefault(Locale.Category.DISPLAY));\n\n    LocalDate date = LocalDate.of(year, month, 15)\n            .with(dow)\n            .with(wf.weekOfMonth(), week);\n    System.out.println(\"Result: \" + date.format(dateFormatter));\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>Now when I enter 2018, 7, 1 and Monday, I get:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Result: 2018\/07\/02<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If you want to control in which language the user should enter the day of week, pass the appropriate locale to the formatter (instead of <code>Locale.getDefault(Locale.Category.FORMAT)<\/code>). If you want it to work in English only, you may use the shorter <code>DayOfWeek dow = DayOfWeek.valueOf(day.toUpperCase(Locale.ROOT));<\/code>, but it\u2019s a bit of a hack.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to control the week scheme used, pass the appropriate locale to <code>WeekFields.of()<\/code> or just specify <code>WeekFields.ISO<\/code> or <code>WeekFields.SUNDAY_START<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>I recommend that you don\u2019t use <code>SimpleDateFormat<\/code> and <code>Calendar<\/code>.
