Depending on the underlying implementation<\/strong> a remove in a List \/ Set can be O(1)<\/code>, O(n)<\/code> or O(log n)<\/code> (or some other even bigger complexity for esoteric implementations).<\/p>\n

ArrayList<\/code> remove is O(n)<\/code> on everything but the last element. Removing the last element in an ArrayList<\/code> is O(1)<\/code> (decrementing the size counter and setting the element to null<\/code>). <\/p>\n

Now you are asking about an interface (Set<\/code>) which has at least two implementations (TreeSet<\/code>, HashSet<\/code>) which both offer a different time complexity for removal as would be the case for LinkedList<\/code> in the List case (which e.g. has O(1)<\/code> removal of the head).<\/p>\n

The set interface doesn’t guarantee an upper bound to the removal but any sane set implementation is at worst O(log n)<\/code> I would suppose \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
