A couple of things could be causing that %<\/code> sign to appear:<\/p>\n

Your program outputs k<\/code> without<\/em> a new line, and your shell prompt just looks like this:<\/p>\n

% \n<\/code><\/pre>\n
Meaning that you run the program like so:<\/p>\n
% .\/a.out\nk \/\/getchar\nk% \/\/putchar + exit + shell prompt\n<\/code><\/pre>\n
So in short: the % isn’t part of the output.<\/p>\n
There is of course the problem with your code triggering UB: the implicit int<\/code> return type is no longer part of the C standard since C99 and up, and your main<\/code> function is not quite right, some standard compliant main functions are:<\/p>\n
int main(void);\nint main (int argc, char **argv);\nint main (int argc, char *argv[]);\n<\/code><\/pre>\n
using ()<\/code> is not the same thing.<\/p>\n
Lastly, you’re not returning anything from main<\/code>, which you should do, just add return 0<\/code> at the end.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
