Your code has three issues:<\/p>\n

1.<\/h3>\n

if (a == \"david\")<\/code><\/p>\n

a<\/code> decays to a pointer to the first element of array a<\/code>.<\/p>\n

\"david\"<\/code> is a string literal. <\/p>\n

With the if<\/code> Statement, you attempt to compare the address of the array a<\/code> by the address of the string literal \"david\"<\/code>. String comparison dies not work that way in C. <\/p>\n

Use strcmp()<\/code> – header string.h<\/code> to compare strings.<\/p>\n

strcmp()<\/code> returns 0 if the strings are equal. To make the if<\/code> condition turn true<\/code> you need to use !<\/code> negation operator.<\/p>\n

2.<\/h3>\n

There is a misplaced ;<\/code> between the if<\/code> condition and if<\/code> body. Remove it.<\/p>\n
