The reason you are getting this error is because the EditText<\/code> is not created on the UI yet. <\/p>\n

But, you need the EditText on the screen, along with some valid data<\/em> before you can call Integer.parseInt<\/code>.<\/p>\n

You need to use some sort of interface, through which you would call Integer.parseInt<\/code>. I suggest using a button.<\/p>\n

If you don’t want to add a button though, use this code:<\/p>\n

a.setOnLongClickListener(new View.OnLongClickListener() {\n    @Override\n    public boolean onLongClick(View v) {\n        int i = Integer.parseInt(a.getText().toString());\n        \/\/any operation involving i\n        return true;\n    }\n});\n<\/code><\/pre>\n
Then, after you type some data into a<\/code>, long press a<\/code>, and see the magic!<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
