For example, in your code, you use this statement in your <code>push<\/code> function: <code>t = new node(a, t);<\/code>. Compiler has to know how to create a new <code>node<\/code> with the two arguments passed to it.<\/p>\n<p>In your constructor you need to initialize the class members. Something like:<\/p>\n<pre><code>node(const T &amp;newvalue, node *nextnode)\n{\n    value = newvalue;\n    next = nextnode;\n}\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>But when the compiler uses this on the line <code>node(a, t)<\/code>, it is going to default-initialize <code>value<\/code> and <code>next<\/code> first, then assign the correct values inside the constructor. Using the constructor initializing list lets the compiler initialize those members the first time. It can be a means to improve performance if objects of type <code>T<\/code> are expensive to construct.
