You have to remove profile from <code>provider and other .tf files<\/code> files.<br \/>\nSo my <code>main.tf<\/code> file is &#8211;<\/p>\n<pre><code>provider \"aws\" {\n    region = \"${var.region}\"\n}\n\nterraform {\n  required_providers {\n    aws = {\n      source  = \"hashicorp\/aws\"\n      version = \"~&gt; 4.30\"\n    }\n  }\n  backend \"s3\" {\n\n  }\n}\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>And <code>backend.dev.conf<\/code> is &#8211;<\/p>\n<pre><code>bucket = \"bucket\"\nkey    = \"dev\/xxx.tfstate\"\nregion = \"ap-south-1\"\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>And most importantly, You have to put <code>acccess key<\/code>, <code>access key id<\/code> and <code>region<\/code> inside <code>circleci-&gt; your project -&gt; environment variable<\/code>,<br \/>\nAnd you have to setup AWS CLI on circleci, apparently inside a job <code>config.yml<\/code>&#8211;<\/p>\n<pre><code>version: 2.1\n\norbs:\n  python: circleci\/python@1.5.0\n  aws-cli: circleci\/aws-cli@3.1.3\n\njobs:\n  build: \n    #  will use a python 3.10.2 container\n    docker:\n      - image: cimg\/python:3.10.2\n    working_directory: ~\/project\n\nplan-apply:\n    executor: aws-cli\/default\n    docker:\n      - image: docker.mirror.hashicorp.services\/hashicorp\/terraform:light\n    working_directory: ~\/project\n    steps:\n      - checkout\n\n      - aws-cli\/setup:\n          aws-access-key-id: aws_access_key_id\n          aws-secret-access-key: aws_secret_access_key\n          aws-region: region\n\n      - run:\n          name: get aws acc info\n          command: aws sts get-caller-identity\n      \n      - run:\n          name: Init infrastructure\n          command: sh scripts\/init.sh dev\n\n      - run:\n          name: Plan infrastructure\n          command: sh scripts\/plan.sh dev\n\n      - run:\n          name: Apply infrastructure\n          command: sh scripts\/apply.sh dev\n.....\n.....\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>This solved the issue. But you have to init, plan and apply inside the job where you set up <code>aws cli<\/code>. I might be wrong to do setup and plan inside same job, but I&#8217;m learning now and this did the job.
