The way I determine what iOS device I am running on so we can change layout based on the iDevices size such as iPad<\/code> and iPhone<\/code> is like.<\/p>\n

To get iPhone 5<\/code> you could also do<\/p>\n
  \/\/ iPhone 5 alternative\n  #define IS_PHONEPOD5() ( fabs( ( double )[ [ UIScreen mainScreen ] bounds ].size.height - ( double )568 ) < DBL_EPSILON )\n\n  \/\/ iPad\n  #define IS_IPAD() (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad)\n\n  \/\/ iPhone 4 (iPhone 3.5\")\n  #define IS_IPHONE() (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserIntefaceIdiomPhone)\n<\/code><\/pre>\n
I add these into my xxxx-Prefix.pch<\/code> so that I can use it throughout my project without having to do an #import<\/code> or #include<\/code>. I am not saying this is the best way but this way works perfectly fine for me. <\/p>\n
If you set these variables you can then just use if statements<\/code> like<\/p>\n
  if(IS_IPAD()) {\n      \/\/ Do something if iPad\n  } else if(IS_IPHONEPOD5()) {\n      \/\/ Do something if iPhone 5 or iPod 5\n  } else {\n     \/\/ Do something for everything else (This is what I do) but you could \n     \/\/ replace the 'else' with 'else if(IS_IPHONE())'\n\n  }\n<\/code><\/pre>\n
There are other ways of doing it though. Such as one developer has written some code that extends UIDevice<\/code> this can be found https:\/\/github.com\/erica\/uidevice-extension\/<\/a><\/p>\n
  [[UIDevice currentDevice] platformType]   \/\/ ex: UIDevice4GiPhone\n  [[UIDevice currentDevice] platformString] \/\/ ex: @\"iPhone 4G\"\n<\/code><\/pre>\n
This will allow you to detect whether the iDevice is an iPhone 3<\/code>, 3GS<\/code>, 4<\/code> and so on.<\/p>\n
