Namecheap, an ICANN accredited registrar, has issued over 5 million domains and is a very popular choice among WordPress users because they offer cheap WordPress hosting, have great customer service, and have maintained a strong anti-SOPA position. They have been helping people get their names on the web since 2001.
When you are pointing your domain to Kinsta you have two options, the first is to use an A record, and the second is to utilize Kinsta’s premium DNS feature with Amazon Route 53. The second option requires that you change your nameservers. Follow the tutorial below on how to change Namecheap nameservers and point them to us (or rather to the nameservers we provide you from Amazon).
Change Namecheap Nameservers to Point to Kinsta
Step 1
First, log in to your Namecheap account dashboard.
Step 2
Next to the domain you want to point to Kinsta, click on “Manage.”
Step 3
By default, the nameservers on your domain will be set to Namecheap’s BasicDNS which you will need to change. Under the “Domain” tab select “Custom DNS” from the dropdown in the nameservers section. If you already had custom nameservers from a previous WordPress host, simply skip to the next step to update them.
Step 4
You then need to input the nameservers that we provide you. You can find these by clicking into Kinsta DNS section from within the MyKinsta dashboard.
Take the nameservers from the Kinsta dashboard and input them into the Custom DNS section in Namecheap for your domain. And click the green check mark when finished.
It may take a few minutes for the nameservers to propagate everywhere. You can use a free tool like What’s My DNS to check if your nameservers are pointing correctly. You will then want to ensure that you finish adding your DNS records in the Kinsta dashboard for your WordPress site to function correctly.
