EPF members can correct their name online in the UAN member portal by using their Aadhar number, but sometimes when the name difference is too big, then you or your employer has to write a request letter to the EPF office to correct the name.

And this letter has to be submitted along with the PF joint declaration form. Here you can find sample letter formats which you can submit to your PF regional office.

Why do employees need to change their name in PF portal

Sometimes employees names may be misspelled in PF portal, in that case, they can’t able to link their UAN numbers with KYC details like bank account number, aadhar number, and PAN card number.

The incorrect names in the PF portal will make trouble during the PF withdrawal process. So in order to avoid all these problems employees should correct their names in the PF portal.

Is there any problem if names in the bank account and PF account are different

If the name of an EPF member present in the bank account doesn’t match with the name in PF account then he will not get his PF claim amount. He has to correct the wrong name either in PF portal or bank account to receive the PF claim amount.

Similarly, the difference of names in Aadhar cards and PAN cards will also cause problems while utilizing online facilities provided by employee provident fund organizations, so it is better to correct your name in PF as per your KYC documents, mainly as per your Aadhar.
